Your Money: Cheap Date Ideas

18 Jun

I think dating is far more accessible during the summer, not to mention much cheaper. While the cold, gray days of winter keep dating activities restricted to indoor venues like restaurants and movie theaters, warm weather opens up a host of opportunities for canoodling on the cheap. I came up with several frugal summer date ideas which I shared with anchor Kirk Yuhnke during this morning’s Good Day Colorado broadcast.

What’s your favorite frugal summer date activity?

I like that you mentioned festivals and concerts – the city in which I live has a free summer “down by the river” concert series that is a great way to have a date with the Mrs. without spending a lot of money. Another thing we like to do is explore making new drinks with our neighbor – we search for recipes, then get the supplies and enjoy a summer night out on the deck trying them out.

Love that idea! My husband and I have recently started trying new recipes. He’s the main chef in our house but I’m trying to develop my skills and I really enjoy chopping, sauteeing and otherwise cooking alongside him. He has a lot of knowledge and it just makes dinner all the more tasty knowing we made it together. Cheap dates rock!

I looove the volunteering idea! That’s something I wouldn’t have thought of as doing on a date or as a couple, but it would be a great way to give back while seeing new sides of each other at the same time. Cool idea!

Thanks Shannon! I think it would be a lot of fun to volunteer with your date/spouse. It’s heartwarming to see someone you care about be generous with their time and skills. Great way to connect!

This video makes me want to move to Denver. So many fun things to do for free/cheap.

Denver is a great place for activities! I actually live closer to Fort Collins, but we have a lot of events, concerts, festivals and community programs as well. The summer is a great time to take advantage of them. Thanks for commenting!

Living in Chicago, we love to go to the outdoor concerts and festivals. Often times they do free concerts if you look hard enough.

Nice! I’ve been to Chicago a couple times for business. Haven’t had much time to explore but it’s a beautiful city and I bet there are lots of fun things to do over the summer. Thanks for commenting!
